shawl, yarn, and ideas
Super quick snapshot of my desk today.
In the center is the shawl I’ve been working on, being watched by the masquerade mask that sits on top of a pile of shawls at the corner of my desk.
Under that are two skeins of malabrigo lace (which I love using) for a new shawl.
At the bottom of the photo, notes for the third bit of the Shawl Geometry series.
And the post-it note peaking out of the corner, is just the beginning of a whole wall of post-it notes all filled with ideas and reminders.
Oh! Hello hello Friday.
Hello, hello, Friday. You are mighty sneaky.
It’s been how many weeks of missed FO Fridays? Fridays. They are sneaky, sneaky. So I’m looking for a new way to notice and mark Fridays.
I really like the idea of FO Friday, but it’s not quite sitting right anymore. It feels forced and awkward.
I just don’t work on projects that can be finished in a week. Then I don’t have an FO to show one Friday, so I take that Friday off, and then I feel a little bad. Then one Friday becomes a string of Fridays, and I feel guilty. ick
THEN when I do finish something, I want to show you! And I don’t want to wait till the next Friday. But I feel like I should. More guilt. more ick
I still want to talk about and show you finished objects. And I absolutely will! (Because I love it.) Just not necessarily on a Friday, and most definitely not every Friday.
So I’m looking for a new way of acknowledging Fridays.
Qualities I want in this new marking of Friday:
ease, simplicity, elegance, spaciousness, flexibility.
A combination-type-thing of Havi’s Friday Chickening, Tara’s Adventures, WIP Wednesdays/FO Fridays, and me.
With some elegant simplicity please.
I’m not sure what form this new “noticing Friday” could take. Or what exactly it’ll look like.
But I’m open to ideas. And I’m willing to play and adjust until it feels right. Comfortable.
The Comments:
I’d love to hear thoughts, ideas, stories, about marking time, or noticing time.
I’d rather not have “shoulds.”
Creative energy is up
But what would happen if you* knew that creative energy was up all the flipping time?
*in this post you really means me, and (maybe) you too but only if you want it to
What would you make? What would you create?
What would you put out into the world that didn’t exist before you?
And that wouldn’t exist without you?
What if you thought creative energy was always up?
And that the variable was you* not it?
*me
What if the variable in the equation
you* + inspiration + time = art
*remember, you meaning me, and you if you want it
wasn’t inspiration, or time, or creativity, or ideas, or your muse, or any one of a million other things? But rather the thing that changed and moved and shifted was you?
Then wouldn’t you* become the thing keeping your art from existing?
*me
And with that little bit of fortune cookie inspired musing I’m going to go knit so that I have a better chance of having a knitting based WIP Wednesday for you next week.
