To Read Over Coffee #3

A collection of links from the past few weeks that I think are interesting/amusing/educational/insightful enough to read/watch/listen & think about over a cup of coffee (or out in the sunshine).

Keeping things short & sweet this week:

Most parts of a garment can be altered, the key to shopping and getting clothes to fit, is knowing which parts of the garment those are: “Shop like a seamstress” on xojane.

I think we can all appreciate why colorways vary from dye lot to dye lot – but why do colorways vary from base yarn to base yarn? Georgian Bay Fibre Company wrote a whole post about.

Serena Garcia Dalla Venezia makes stunning, organic, sewn art pieces. Serious go look at these!

A wonderful interview with Cecelia Campochinaro, the author of “Sequence Knitting,” a beautiful book that explores the process of repeating sequences of stitches with marvelous results.

“My guiding principles are first that the process must be simple, and second that the end product must be lovely. The balance between these two criteria is a fascinating puzzle.”

The Self-Made Wardrobe Week 47

The Self-Made Wardrobe is a project where I only wear garments I’ve made.
It’s a year long experiment in getting dressed without clothing labels –
it’s a year about noticing patterns, trying things, and observing what happens.

So… next week is the beginning of July… which means that Month 11 of this project is almost over… when the hell did that happen?!

On Wednesday, I talked about the handful of projects that I’m itching to work on, but in light of the fact that:
a) I have 1 month left of the self-made wardrobe, and
b) I’ve been living in archers & maxi skirts
I think I want to focus my crafting time on 3 new pieces this month.

I want to add 1 new archer button up shirt, and 2 new maxi skirts to my wardrobe by the end of the month.

That’s totally do-able. Right?

A week of planning, rather than making…

Each Wednesday, I take stock of the projects I’m working on.

What I’m Working On…

Crafting wise? – nada!
It’s just been one of those weeks where my crafting mojo has been MIA.

I’ve contemplated making lots of things, like…
: finally putting the buttons on my 2nd archer
: adding sleeves to my crazy colorful slipped stitch sweater
: picking up some white cotton lawn for a 3rd archer button up
: picking up some swishy fabrics for more skirts
: contemplating breaking my “separates = better” rule for a Sallie jumpsuit

I’m sure my crafting mojo will come back eventually – it always does – I just hope it comes back sooner rather than later, because I want new clothes
