Sweater Weather, Non Sweater Weather & Christmas Traveling – The Self-Made Wardrobe Week 21
The Self-Made Wardrobe is a project where I only wear garments I’ve made.
It’s sort of a year long experiment in getting dressed without clothing labels.
DAY 141 – DECEMBER 19th
Versio Sweater
Black Scarf
Graphic Silk Circle Skirt
Black Tights
Brown Boots
Various Rings
I’ve said this before, but I’ve never really been a sweater knitter. Prior to this self-made wardrobe project, I mostly knit super complex lace shawls that I almost never wear. And one of the best parts of this project has been knitting sweaters, learning tons about knitting sweaters, and figuring out how to knit sweaters out of yarn I already have in my yarn stash (none of which was bought with knitting sweaters in mind.)
DAY 142 – DECEMBER 20th
Moonstruck Cardigan
Grey Cowl
Black Maxi Skirt with a Slit
Black Tights
Brown Boots
Various Rings
One of the downsides to wearing mostly black is that it kind of all blends together in photographs. One piece just sort of melds into the next.
DAY 143 – DECEMBER 21st
Colorful Knit Sweater Dress
Basic Black Tank Top
Black Leggings
Various Rings
I finally got around to getting black leggings to wear under this dress – something I’ve been meaning to do since I finished knitting this dress way back in May.
DAY 144 – DECEMBER 22nd
Deconstructed Black Sweater
Boring Black Sweater
Basic Black Tank Top
Graphic Silk Circle Skirt
Black Tights
Brown Boots
Various Rings
I didn’t plan it this way, but I love that when I wear my boring black sweater & my deconstructed sweater they visually blend together and look like a different sweater entirely. I guess that’s one of the benefits of solid black clothing.
DAY 145 – DECEMBER 23rd
Versio Sweater
Basic Black Tank Top
Black Circle Skirt with a Slit
Various Rings
A strangely warms spell means a) no snow for Christmas, and b) many fewer layers that can normally be expected for the end of December…
DAY 146 – DECEMBER 24th
Green & Blue Archer Button Up Shirt (still without buttons…)
Basic Black Tank Top
Black Scarf
Graphic Silk Circle Skirt
Black Tights
Black Heels
Pocket Watch Necklace
Various Rings
Visiting the parents for Christmas means there are trees outside the windows and fireplaces inside the living room.
DAY 147 – DECEMBER 25th
Colorful Knit Sweater Dress
Black Scarf
Black Leggings
Various Rings
Getting dressed without actually getting dressed… what else would you wear on Christmas Day?
The Deconstructed Sweater – a cozy and easy winter sweater
Giant. Cushy. Cozy. Sweater.
What’s not to love?
This is currently the only sewn sweater in my self-made wardrobe, and I really hope to change that soon. As much as I love knitting, there is something to be said for a sweater you can make in a morning.
I wanted a sweater that was cozy and easy – both while I was making it and when I wear it. So the fabric is a thick, cushy sweater knit, that I turning into a pullover with a giant cowl, and exposed seams.
The “pattern” is just 8 rectangles, strategically sewn together. 1 rectangle for the front, 1 for the back, 2 for the sleeves, and 4 rectangles for the yoke/cowl.
And the sweater turned out to be exactly what I wanted it to be.
Giant. Cushy. Cozy. Easy. The perfect winter sweater.
a super colorful sweater body
Each Wednesday, I post little snippets about what’s happening, and what I’m working on.
Super quick update today, because the only knitting I worked on all week was my crazy colorful sweater.
Last week I was at the waist, transitioning my colors, and hoping all of the colors would work together.
I think the colors worked out really well together – even though this wasn’t the original plan.
