lace cables and garter stitch

I’m always working on some project or another, and most weeks I talk about what I’m working on Wednesdays as part of Tami’s WIP Wednesday project. You can see past WIP Wednesdays … right this way.

I’ve been working on a couple projects the past couple weeks. None of which have been the posy and celedon shawl. But all of which have seen lots and lots of progress. I haven’t had a lot of time to knit, but when I was able to carve out a chunk of time, I focused primarily on a shawl you haven’t seen yet.

It’s a circular shawl with a lace cable pattern, knit out of the Verdant Gryphon’s Eidos in “fenris” and “blinding polyphemus.” Once it’s blocked you’ll be able to see the patterning much, much better. That’s the magic of blocking. And when I wasn’t working on that,

I was working on a fabulously simple garter stitch shawl in Tosh Merino Light. It’s soft and squishy and delightfully mindless (but not boring.)

yay blocking!!

Elegant. Delicate. Luxurious.
The shawl ghosts across the shoulders, and triangles mirror themselves to create this geometric stitch pattern.
This is a simple rectangular shawl with a crisp clear stitch pattern, and a generous garter stitch border. Pair it with a simple black dress, and a beautiful shawl pin, to make it the epitome of understated elegance.
Knit in one piece from cast on to bind off, this pattern uses one skein of lace weight yarn to create a warm but delicate shawl, designed to stun. The vertical lines of the stitch pattern draw the eye all the way up the shawl, while the understated garter border holds it all together.

Coming Up Next

I’m always working on some project or another, and most weeks I talk about what I’m working on Wednesday evenings as part of Tami’s WIP Wednesday project. You can see other WIP Wednesdays … here.

There are currently three ideas fighting for the spot of next to be cast on.

20130123-092537.jpg

These two skeins of Tosh Merino Light want to become a large sweeping shawl which incorporates two alternating stitches of some kind.

Three skeins of Plucky Knitter here. Two “Sticky Toffee” in Traveler, and one “Chlorophyll” in Primo Finger. Wanting to be a garter stitch square shawl with a slit from the center to the hem (same shape as Spider Silk) with a striping sequence and strategically placed stitch motifs throughout.

The final idea is one skein of Tosh Merino light that I want to make into a shallow triangular shawl, maybe with eyelet rows every now and then. Keeping the overall design simple.

Of course there are tons of other skeins also shouting “cast me on, cast me on.” These just happen to be the loudest. Have an opinion? Let me know!
