a week of traveling, editing, and moving

Each Wednesday, I take stock of the projects I’m working on, and where my brain is at.

editing by the sea

What projects am I working on? And where is my brain at?

I’m working on far too many projects, and my brain feels like it’s about to explode in 14 different directions.

I got back from Maine after a cancelled flight (that was never actually technically cancelled), an extra night in a Portland hotel, and a very early flight the next morning.

But at least the Portland airport has couches & rocking chairs, and the many hours of delay meant that I finished up the edits I was working on.

Which means, this round of edits for Shawl Geometry Book Two are done. And I got to send them off to my technical editor this morning.

If you’re keeping track of the revolving door that is this editing process. Book One is with it’s second technical editor, on it’s third (and final) round of edits. Book Two is with it’s first technical editor on it’s first round of edits. And I’m about to dive into my first round of edits on Book Three, while I wait for Book One to come back to me.

But between now and starting in on Book Three edits, I move.

Tomorrow morning.

And as much as I’m sick of moving, this move does reunite me with my yarn/fabric stash, and the rest of my wardrobe, so I’m pretty damn excited.

suddenly the project tips, and the finish line is surprisingly close

Each Wednesday, I take stock of the projects I’m working on, and where my brain is at.

sewing a dress

One of the reasons I do these Wednesday touching base/taking stock posts each week is because it gives my the opportunity to notice some of my “patterns.” The things I do without noticing that I do them.

And one of the big things that these weekly posts have made me realize is that I either have lots and lots and lots of projects on the needles, or nothing on the needles. There have been very, very weeks where I only had one project to work on.*
*there have definitely been weeks where I only worked on one project, but very few where I only had one thing that could be worked on.

Sometimes, when I have a lot of projects on the needles (or just “in the works” because it turns out these habit patterns apply to more than just knitting) – projects move along at what feels like an agonizingly slow pace for a long time.

But then there’s a tipping point. Maybe it’s a change in the energy, or the stars move, or it’s just the accumulation of lots of teeny tiny steps.

Whatever it is, suddenly the project tips, and the finish line seems surprisingly close.

That happened with my no-longer-really-an-Anna Dress this week. All that’s left to do is, adding a slit to the skirt, and hemming the skirt. (And of course photographing & blogging it.) But it’s entirely possible that I’ll have this dress done next week! Fingers crossed!

And, and! In other gigantic steps being made on projects! The first book in the Shawl Geometry update is off to the technical editor!!! I’m over the moon, and plowing away on edits to the second book.

a summer dress, summer sunsets, and shawl geometry books update

Each Wednesday, I take stock of the projects I’m working on, and where my brain is at.

Three things this week.

Thing one: my no-longer-really-an-Anna Dress, has a skirt that’s attached to a bodice, a zipper, and a lining that’s attached to the shell!

Next Up: straps, a hem, and to decide if I want to add a slit to the skirt or not.

There yet maybe hope for this dress.

Thing two: summer sunsets. And a reminder to go outside and enjoy them.

Thing three: more information about the Shawl Geometry Books 2nd edition! And right here is a way to get notified as soon as each updated book is available!
